Literary-Memorial Museum Kotlyarevsky

The museum was opened on September 28, 1952 in an old house, which, according to legend, belonged to the famous poet and playwright VV Kapnist. The building of the museum is on the List of National Monuments. The museum collection is housed in seven exhibition halls, one of which is an exhibition hall. Visitors to the museum, in addition to getting acquainted with the main exhibition, thanks to the latter have a unique opportunity to see the creative novelties of contemporary Poltava artists. A large number of different materials, organized according to thematic-chronological principle, tells about the life and creative path of the famous Poltava, founder of new Ukrainian literature, author of "Aeneid", plays "Natalka Poltavka", "Moskal-magician" Ivan Kotlyarevsky. The museum holds the manuscript archive of the poet, transmitted to the St. Petersburg Public Library. M. Saltykov-Shchedrin, his personal belongings, the numerical library of the life and later editions of the writer of the XVIII-XIX centuries, works of fine art. In four halls, materials about the life and creative life of IP Kotlyarevsky are collected, the next two talk about honoring the memory of the poet. Among the unique exhibits of the museum - the first lifetime edition of the poem "Aeneid" in 1798, as well as a rare second edition in 1808, valuable in that it was in the personal library of the owner. A separate hall is dedicated to the history of the creation and release of the poem "Aeneid". The official and public activity of I. Kotlyarevsky as a supervisor of the House of upbringing of children of impoverished nobles, the caretaker of Poltava charitable institutions, the director of the first stationary theater of Poltava, is deeply covered. Annually talented student youth the museum is awarded the Ivan Kotlyarevsky Literary Prize for the best poetic and humorous work. Literary and musical evenings, presentations of new editions, meetings with writers and scholars are constantly held.

Once I accidentally got on an excursion. A museum employee said so interestingly that even I (NOT a fan of Ukrainian literature) was delighted!

Very interesting museum for an uneven-aged contingent. The exhibits are in excellent condition and the building itself is neat and attractive. Convenient location.

Although the estate of Ivan Petrovich is more popular, it is a wonderful museum. Beautiful, detailed exposure that highlights the protagonist and his day. It is worth taking a guided tour. Also there are exhibitions of Poltava artists. Recently learned that the author of the tapestry with Kotlyarevsky, who is in the museum - Stefania Shabatura, Ukrainian dissident, who survived two imprisonment and exile for creativity.
