Botanical Garden of Poltava National Pedagogical University

Not many Poltava residents, and the more guests, know about the existence of such a beautiful place in Poltava. Having visited once, I want to come back again and again. I highly recommend visiting. Beautiful plants, polite staff can tell and show a lot. There is something to see.

Abandoned place with sick workers. We didn't see any flowers there, and when we were just walking in the thickets, the grandmother who works there started shouting from the opposite side - "What are you doing there, you are stealing cherries!" "Closed" is written in large letters on the greenhouse, although I saw that people were coming out of there, probably who had solved this issue with the grandmother. I do not recommend, especially to tourists, so as not to spoil the impression of Poltava in general

The Bot Garden belongs to the Faculty of Natural Sciences of PNPU, and its funding is accordingly too little. The entrance to the bot garden itself is free, but to enter the greenhouse you need to pay 20 UAH. A photo for a group of up to 10 people costs 300 UAH. Collected very not even bad copies, at least once worth going.

The history of the foundation of the Botanical Garden in Poltava dates back to the beginning of the XX century. An agrobiological station was established at the then Pedagogical Institute in the territory of about 5.25 ha. The station was an orchard with vegetable and field rotations and was used as a training base exclusively for students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university. During the 1960's and 1980's, flower beds with annual and perennial crops were planted, alpine slides were created, and a large collection of cacti was collected. In 1990, a new greenhouse of 200 m2 was built, where today there are about 600 species, forms and varieties of plants from different parts of the globe, and open-air plants - about 500 species. Thanks to the work of the staff of the station and teachers of the Department of Botany in 1989, the station was granted the status of Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden is located in the relief area of ​​the eastern part of the city. The garden contains several departments: arboretum, department of flowering and ornamental plants, museum of Ukrainian open-air floriculture, green class, alpine slide, department of agricultural and medicinal crops, orchard. The arboretum is located on the southern slope of the Botanical Gardens in an area of ​​almost 1.8 ha. It consists of a section of the park, where the landscape-landscape principle is based on the placement of the rocks. The collection of trees and shrubs includes 136 species. A prominent place in the garden exhibit is the Museum of Ukrainian National Open-Air Floriculture. Here the oak grows, symbolizing longevity and durability, warty birch - the master of the host and family, willow brittle - a symbol of the fullness of life, longevity and feminine beauty. Under the glass roof of the greenhouse at the same time are located "Poltava" tropics, subtropics and desert. The collection of arid regions of the Earth is represented by the vegetation of Africa and South America. Numerous vivid cacti and stone yuccas among the stone cliffs mimic the desert, agave arousing interest in appearance and biological properties. No less interesting is the group of plants - representatives of the subtropics: pink and white oleanders, myrtles, hibiscus, cytomandra. The tropical collection is widely represented by the inhabitants of rain forests - ficus, giant creepers. Over the mini-pool are spread thickets of cyrtomium double-row and giant creeper monsters delicacy. Well acclimatized in the greenhouse and dracena, or dragon tree, represented by several species. Giant palm trees up to 10 meters high rise above it all, date palms with fruits and fanials - erytheria, sabers, trachycarpus with fragrant inflorescences. The collection of plants in the greenhouse is constantly updated with new species. Organized visitor groups are given the opportunity to purchase sprouts of plants and flowers.

A joy for the eyes! An endlessly beautiful oasis. A greenhouse with huge exotics and succulents. There is a sale of plants. Prices for a visit and excursions are below average. I recommend to visit everyone who has never been !!!
