The Statue of Laocoon is a beautiful sculpture, located near the Odessa Archaeological Museum. It is a copy of the original sculpture in the Vatican, which reflects a mythological story- a Trojan priest and his sons fight with the snakes sent by the God of the seas, Poseidon.

Really amazing.

For the first time I saw the sculpture in my youth when I visited Odessa. It was amazing to see the masterpiece not indoors, but outdoors. Then I admired the marble original in the Vatican museums. I fully understand the mayor of Odessa G. Marazli, who ordered himself a copy of the sculpture after he saw it in the Vatican. He liked her so much. In 1870, Laocoon and his sons were installed at the mayor's dacha. Over time, the sculpture changed its place and began to decorate Preobrazhenskaya Street. And since 1971 it has been in the place where we are used to seeing it - in front of the building of the Odessa Archaeological Museum.

The Laokoon sculpture is a copy of the original, which is in the Pia Clement Museum in the Vatican. In the 19th century, businessman G. Marazli ordered to install it in his garden in the country. In 1917, after the October Revolution, the monument was taken away and nationalized. Ten years later, he was placed in a park at the intersection of Preobrazhenska and Spiridonivska streets. Laocoon stood there for 45 years, but, after several acts of vandalism, was transferred to the Archaeological Museum, where it is still. The legend of Laokoon Laocoon warned his fellow citizens against the dangerous gift of the Danites, who were patronized by Athena, for which the goddess sent a punishment on the Trojan. While praying to Poseidon by the sea, Laocoon and his sons did not even notice the monsters approaching them - red-eyed snakes. When they reached the shore, they attacked the Trojans, wrapped their bodies tightly and strangled them, inflicting deadly poisonous bites that inflicted hellish pain. Sculpture Laocoon rests one foot on the ground, the other bends and touches the altar. With his hands he tries to protect himself from the snake, taking away its head, but too late, the monster showed its deadly teeth. Laocoon's face conveys all the pain and horror he feels, realizing the imminent death of his sons. The case is the youngest son, who has already been bitten by a snake. Losing strength, he gradually falls at his father's feet. On the left - the senior. His face is full of pleading. He seems to be the only one who could escape, but no, all three died.
