Ochakiv Military History Museum named after AV Suvorov

I got to the museum by accident. But I witnessed a bus tour to the museum. Museum expositions are very informative and memorable. The territory is well-groomed. The staff are real professionals in their field. Museum staff treat visitors with the warmth that intelligent people from the provinces are capable of. With pleasure, in a year or two I will visit the museum again. I recommend to lovers of history to visit.

The Military History Museum in Ochakov was opened in 1972. Initially, it was located in the building of a former mosque. The highlight of the museum was the diorama "The Storming of the Ochakov Fortress by Russian Troops in 1788". Then it was a fashionable novelty, tourists from all over the Union came to see it. A visit to the diorama was included in the program of my cruise along the Dnieper. We arrived in Ochakov, and the museum had a day off that day. I did not see the diorama. And here is the second attempt many, many years later. And bummer again. It turned out that in 2000 the military history museum moved to the very center of Ochakov, to a large two-story building, which is better suited for a museum. Exhibitions with many exhibits from the storage of the museum are freely located here. But not a diorama. Its dimensions simply do not fit into the building space. It is necessary to build a separate room for it. And this requires large investments, and not from the local budget. Museum staff write to Kiev, write, but to no avail. And the personality of Suvorov, you understand, is not so popular in Ukraine. The accents have shifted. The topic of the Russian-Turkish war is not relevant now. We are not at war with Turkey, but we fly there on vacation under the all-inclusive program. Although for me personally, the transformation of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul into a mosque is a slap in the face that burns on my cheek. By the way, they have a Panorama of the capture of Christian Constantinople by the Ottomans in Istanbul. They constantly take schoolchildren there to be proud of their history. And our ancestors beat the Turks very well, and we should not forget about it. It is a pity that we do not know how to store history. By the way, a weather vane (weighing more than 300 kg) rotates on the roof of the museum, which was previously on the building of the mosque.

A normal collection of exhibits, especially impressed by the armory. All historical epochs of Ochakov and the district are presented - from Greek settlements to the present.

I liked it very much. There are many exhibits. Marine fleet. Aviation. Ancient world. And even the personal belongings of Lieutenant Schmidt.
