In Soviet times, buildings in the mass architecture of residential buildings were designed first in the style of simplified constructivism, and later in the style of "ordinary" Stalinist houses, especially pre-war. After the decision to combat "architectural excesses" in 1955, plaster was also referred to as "excesses". Many Stalinist new buildings lost it. From that moment until the collapse of the Soviet Union, all brick houses and most other buildings were built without plaster, representing typical functional "boxes" of the most massive white silicate brick. In some cases, to decorate the facades of white brick combined color, especially red, laying out of it individual parts of the facade or wall patterns. Sometimes the opposite was done - the main part of the facade of yellow or red brick was decorated with a pattern of white brick. A typical example is the brick ornament of the water tower of the Darnytsia Car Repair Plant (the area of ​​the DVRZ in Kyiv). The tower was built in 1954.
