An architectural monument in the Art Nouveau style with elements of the English Gothic. The authors of the project are Pokrovsky and his assistant Velichko. Until 1920 it was a private gymnasium for the Pokrovsky sisters. In Soviet times, it housed first a secondary school 62, then an evening school for working youth 17. The school was closed due to the emergency condition of the building. The building was abandoned and boarded up for about 15 years. In 1980 it was transferred to the Institute of Culture. Students took an active part in its restoration. Now here is the theater department of the University of Arts. Kotlyarevsky. The building is decorated with sculptures of chimeras, salamanders, wolf heads, old knightly coats of arms. It is interesting that on the facade of the building you can see the heads of the authors of the project (young Velichko in the form of a medieval student scribe and Pokrovsky in the form of a professor-reader with glasses). These sculptures were secretly commissioned by the Pokrovsky sisters. At the level of the fourth floor, two mirrored humanoid creatures can be seen on the left and right. From time to time, students paint their nails for one of them, which can be reached from the window. You can visit the performances of the student theater.
