The palace-type building ends with an attic under the roof "with a crease". Two main facades - east and west - are decorated in a ceremonial manner. These facades were decorated with pediments. The eastern facade is finished with faceted speeches at the corners of the structure, a high pediment, exquisitely decorated windows. The eastern facade faces Sofia Square. The facade overlooking the so-called metropolitan courtyard (Ukrainian metropolitan church) is no less magnificent. The house for the Metropolitan of Kiev was built in 1722-1730 in the Ukrainian Baroque, characteristic of Kiev of those years, directly opposite the main entrance to St. Sophia Cathedral. From year to year, the building has been constantly changing. Initially (under Metropolitan Varlaam) the house was one-story. However, a little later, when Rafail Zaborovsky was the Kiev Metropolitan, the second floor was built on. Apparently, the work was directed by the famous architect Johann Gottfried Schedel. Only at the next metropolitan - Timothy Shcherbatsky was able to complete the already protracted construction. This time the work was led by architect S. Antonov.
