The monument to Yuri Gnat as a soldier Schweik was unveiled on May 27, 2011. The authors of the work are architect Borys Pisarenko, sculptors Volodymyr Chepelyk and Oleksiy Chepelyk. Yura Petrovich Hnat (January 8, 1888 - January 18, 1966) - Ukrainian theater director, actor of theater and cinema. In 1920, he founded the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater and directed it until 1964. The theater was opened on January 28, 1920 with the play "Sin" by Volodymyr Vynnychenko, directed by Yura Hnat. There is a monument in front of this theater. The brave soldier Josef Schweik is a satirical character invented by the Czech writer Jaroslav Hasek, who constantly gets into various comic situations on the way to the front during the First World War. The appearance of the monument fully corresponds to the stage image of Schweik, who was repeatedly played in the theater by Yura Hnat.
