To know, I would not have known about the 19th century marine painter Rufin Sudkovsky, if I had not come to the museum named after him. I saw his work and was amazed at how talented the artist is. I love seascape painting, I always admire the works of Aivazovsky. But then it seemed to me that Sudkovsky's paintings are even better than Aivazovsky's. And I was not far from the truth, because Aivazovsky himself wrote about Sudkovsky: "It will be a worthy rival if it does not surpass me." Kuindzhi, another famous artist, publicly accused Sudkovsky of plagiarism, claiming that the painting "Dead Calm" completely repeats his painting "Lake Ladoga". To which several newspapers wrote at once that Sudkovsky did not repeat Kuindzhi's painting, but surpassed him. Why do we practically do not know about this talented master? Perhaps because he died early, at 35, in the prime of his life - he died of typhus. And most likely because we do not store our history. Sharovarshchina is yes, we love this, they say, this is Ukraine. But we do not know and value true creativity. Here I was in Truskavets in the museum of Mikhail Bilas. Have you heard of this? And I didn't hear. But I saw his original tapestries and exclaimed "He's a genius." Yes, what am I? About the Sudkovsky Museum. Ochakov is the birthplace of the artist. That is why the first in Ukraine museum dedicated to marine painting was opened in the city. Here you can see 17 works of the master, as well as archival photographs, documents, personal belongings. And in the next hall, the central place is occupied by paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky.

The entrance is 40 hryvnia. Two halls of canvases by marienists, incl. Aivazovsky and Chudovsky, in the third hall, the works of a contemporary local artist are quite interesting. A photo against the background of one of the paintings will cost 100 hryvnia. No more. It is also forbidden to take pictures of paintings. It's bad that the lighting in the halls is very bad, large canvases are very poorly visible from the glare of the chandeliers and the light from the windows.

The final place! We can't get there again! They have a real weekend - Saturday and Sunday!

A good, cozy museum, although there are only 3 halls (the first - Sudkovsky, the second - Aivazovsky and other seascape painters, the third is reserved for the exhibition of miniatures - very cool!) Ticket price - 30 UAH for an adult.

A real museum of paintings. Small but worthwhile
