Beautiful place with picturesque lake view
You can take a photo with a colored pigeons.
The park is very large. It is better to take bicycles to enjoy the beauty in different places
"Chinese Bridge" - an architectural structure of the XVIII century in the arboretum "Alexandria".
It got its name from the gazebo on the bridge, the roof of which resembles the roofs of Chinese pagodas. The construction of the gazebo took place during the active construction of the park. The local landscape emphasizes the exotic look of the bridge, which overlooks the upper lake with a waterfall and the lower lake. To give the building monumentality, the lower part of the bridge is made of massive blocks of granite and sandstone. Located on the dam between the two ponds of the Middle Beam, the bridge performs a purely decorative function.
In the early 90s of the 19th century, bronze sculptures of a Chinese sage and a Chinese woman were installed in front of the building, which successfully complemented the architectural ensemble. There is a belief that if you hold on to the sage's beard, you can hope for the fulfillment of the most secret desires.
There is evidence that the construction of the Chinese bridge coincided with the beginning of the park. Here is how J. Lippoman wrote in his description of "Alexandria", published in 1838: "… also a bridge in the arcade of hewn stone built a gazebo Hinskaya (translated from Polish - Chinese) iron, bardo drunken (very beautiful)
In the same distant 1838 a lithograph was published from a drawing by Stesa Berchynska, but it depicts another version of the Chinese bridge. However, the drawing is not a documentary photo, and it is quite possible that the artist's imagination worked fruitfully there…
The Chinese bridge was restored in 1963, and in the early 1990s, bronze sculptures of a Chinese man and a Chinese woman were installed at the entrance to the Luna colonnade. The sculptures were made in Kyiv restoration workshops using photographs that were, unfortunately, indistinct. the sculptures are new, original.
From the viewing platform of the bridge in the northern direction you can see the Swan Pond, where beautiful birds swim in summer, the dam and the slopes of the Goldfish pond. Above the bridge is a gazebo in the silhouette of a Chinese pagoda - a cult building, common in the Far East. The multicolored painting of the wooden details of the roof is made in the style of the motifs of Chinese national painting, and the ends of the corners, which protrude from under the roof, resemble the heads of bizarre dragons.
Alexandria Park is generally an interesting place. I have a sense of peace there. And on the Chinese bridge, mulled wine is even tastier to drink😁
