This was the best day! And my little dog loved the trails..puts you back in time ...and I connected with nature ..my batteries are recharged to face the hustle and bustle of busy life ! I made it all the way to the cemetery such a beautiful walk if only the old cabins and river could talk
I loved the Trails and the Bailey and Shelberg Farm. Great trails and park very clean and walkable!
Trails are narrow at points making passing people difficult. Several areas have a lot of exposed roots. Good changes in elevation for a solid workout.
This is an interesting place to see and learn about while hiking along a beautiful trail in Indiana Dunes. The original house and several surrounding buildings can be viewed from the outside. If a ranger is present they sometimes open a couple of the small outbuildings. There are several educational signs around that tell a bit about the area, the native people to the area, and, just a bit, about the Bailly family. It's interesting to learn that the Bailly who built the house worked for the government to interact and arrange agreements with the native people. It's sad to learn that he died before he was able to live there.
Enjoy a nice long walk through trails and the historic homestead.
