Younts Woolen Mill was built in 1864 by Daniel Yount. This brick woolen mill is located on Sugar Creek at 3941 West Old Mill Road near State Route 32 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.nnThe extant mill stands 3-stories tall with access to an attic level with a foot print of 50 feet by 75 feet. Daniel Yount powered the woolen mill with a turbine. The dam across Sugar Creek was more that seven feet high and it is no longer in existence.nnThe Daniel Younts Woolen Mill and his surrounding businesses supplied uniforms for the Union Army during the Civil War in 1861-1865 and the Spanish American War in 1898. Daniel Yount employed over 300 people at the height of his woolen business.nnDaniel Yount, born in 1807, died in 1890. After his death, the Younts Woolen Company diminished and was closed in 1905.nnToday, 2018, only the massive brick building survives. It is beautifully restored and stands as an impressive Greek Revival style edifice. The Younts Woolen Mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. (Resource: B. Brookie White)
