McAlpine Lock and Dam Visitors Area

People who live here don't know it. Good place to visit occasionally. Watch a coal barge go through. Impressive and happens frequently. I guess it's coming from the east.

So disappointed to find it closed. We had planned a field trip to go along with our home schooling.

Good place to take you’re kids and explain how the locks work and let them read some of the literature that’s posted around explaining what everything is. Don’t suggest doing it on a very hot and sunny day ud83dude02

Take a look at one of the most efficient way to move large amounts of cargo. You do not really appreciate how big a full tow is, until you see it up close.
