I love this job but like any other industry, respect is not given unless your job makes no one else's harder. So, learning? Guess you gotta go through it.
After bringing several log truck loads from my property to this mill I found out from our buyer that they under sized every one of the loads. When I complained to him I was told that they said that they didn't even need the lumber and that we were lucky they were taking it at all. I had huge, premium, no knots at all, 40' long, Douglas red fir trees and only got a fraction of what the buyer estimated we should get. I would recommend to all considering this mill to label, measure, take pictures and fully document every load you take there because they will under scale your investment and you will get a lot less money than you thought if your not careful. I really do hope that this makes an impact and that they start honoring all the hard working people that bring their lives investment (in timber) to them to sell.
