Maywood Police Department

I’ve always had a great experience with the Maywood PD. When my Dad was alive and he had fallen, I called the Maywood PD for help. They were here in seconds. I’ve called them on other occasions when I’ve heard something outside at night. Again, Maywood PD was here right away. Maywood PD deserves our respect and praise for what they do everyday to protect us. No one really knows what’s going on in Maywood that we don’t know about. Please remember that...we don’t really know what’s going on in town that we don’t know about.

When I’ve had any interactions with the MPD officers - the officers did not seem like your average “cop” but the they were more like the true word of Citizens On Patrol. One night I forgot to close my car door, an officer took the time to check the situation out and knock on my door to tell me I left my door open bc he didn’t want my interior light to leave me with a dead battery in the morning. And a few other interactions all of them seem like really good men and women. Small town - good feeling to be a part of this community.

I found that the Maywood Police department to be run in a very bias way. I tried to file a complaint against an officer (internal affairs) and was not allowed to and told that I had to be escorted out. Maybe being in a wheelchair gave the officer the thought I was not worthy of filing a complaint. I then got in touch with the Bergen Prosecutors office and was able to get a detective from Internal affairs from Maywood to take my original complaint and one against the officer who refused to take my complaint. After researching the law regarding filing an internal affairs complaint in NJ, it appears to be very easy. I think there appears to be a lot of favoritism among the staff. Having said that I felt the detectives that came acted in a very professional and honest way a true asset for the Maywood Police. Time will tell the integrity of the system
