It borders an active light-industrial area, The kind of place where the men who are working wear yellow hard hats. We visited on an off day, so there was there was no one around to let us in. But that was OK. There are explanatory signs that offer a good overview of the site as well as a nice introduction to it. The structure has obviously been restored with a care approaching devotion. It is very well maintained. The site could benefit from further engineering, but the over-all effect is unquestionably authentic. Freight and commuter trains run frequently, engines actually sit in the yard. It is a dynamic space, very much attuned to the present, not simply stuck in a sentimental past. I went with two grandsons -- tweeners -- who liked it and want to come back on a day when it's open. The people responsible for restoring this have endowed our area with a generous gift.
The Waldwick Signal Tower is an interesting piece of local history as it was the watch tower for all the local rail routes. It has seen it all with the railroad and for railroad buffs, it is must see. You can observe the trains going by.nnThe display currently going on is the railroad deeds and the lines that once went through the area. The view from the tower shows all the current tracks being used as well as the surrounding areas.
