Mark Twain was a very interesting guy. I discovered this by visiting this museum. Our visit to the boyhood home was initially a way to get out of the cold wind for a bit, but when we were finished we had a completely different perspective on his life. I took away that he was a very special person, born with superior intelligence and a stunningly quick wit. Some of his quotes are ahead of their time. Regarding the museum, you get a lot for the price of admission. Access to his home and the surrounding buildings along with the museum down the street. Be sure to check out the first addition books and the Norman Rockwell paintings. I highly recommend visiting this museum and Hannibal, mo.

Great walk through historynThis was the highlight of our trip to walk through the many different houses, museum, and learn of his adventures that made his writing.n1. Tickets for all the homes and both museums are $12.00 / personn2. Lots of reading. Younger children may be bored.n3. There are lifts in the house to reach the second floor. I did not see this for Mark Twain's home.n4. The Lighthouse can be reached by driving up to it. It has a small parking lot. You will have to walk the final steps (60+) to get to the lighthouse and it is not wheelchair accessible.n5. You will get a better view from Lover's Leap than the lighthouse and it is 100% wheelchair accessible.

I didn’t have time to tour the boyhood home, but the museum was fabulous! For a $5 entry fee, I saw some amazing Norman Rockwell originals. The museum houses a number of the iconic artist’s sketches and paintings, all memorializing classic scenes from Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The ladies at the museum, Barbara and Karen, were a wonderful resource of information. Barbara is an expert who has spent her entire life in Hannibal. Karen is an amateur historian who is very giving of her time and shows a genuine interest in educating the patrons. There are so many artifacts here including Mark Twain’s chair, jacket and pipe. Do not leave Hannibal without visiting the museum!
