Marceline Police Department

I recently received a speeding ticket from officer CPL R. Skaggs. Badge number 1203 in zone B03 on September 2, 2018. Not only was he extremely rude, but he tried to take his “authority” and use it to scare me. He made me get out of my vehicle and sit in his squad car while he wrote me a speeding ticket. I kindly asked “why?” Because this is not a common auccurance. He replied “you can either come sit in my car with me, or go to jail.” As far as I’m concerned, officers duties are to protect. Not act like that he has this power (which cops don’t), to act like some tough guy.nnNot only was I then sitting in the car with the officer (which made me feel extremely uncomfortable as I am a very petite 25 year old white girl) but he was verbally harassing me.nnHe then just to be rude and again use his amazing super cop power, he wrote me a ticket for driving in the left lane. People. We are in the middle of missiouri. You think there is one other car on this highway? I replied that every car I was driving past, I was passing, and he replied with another snarky comment.nnIn this era of the me too movement I would have hoped that a cop (of ALL jobs) would be here to protect the people and make them feel comfortable. I was wearing a backless, short dress with no bra. When I stepped out of the vehicle the cop looked me up and down.nnI am completely blow away by the way I was treated. This incident is a perfect definition of why all people have lost all respect for cops.nnAnd the scariest part. Imagine if I was black. I could never even begin to imagine how rude officer R. Skaggs would have been to me.nnThank god for video cameras in the squad cars. Or else I would have never gotten in. I’m sure they are easily turned off (after the many events where they have been in the news).nnGoing forward I would hope that cites begin hiring cops with respect towards their people. That protect and serve. Not try to intimate and abuse their power.nnOffice R. Skaggs, you are the definition of a bad cop.
