Lake Winnebago Police Department

i've always heard the police in lake winnebago were ticket happy. i always watch my speed through there and had successfully avoided getting pulled over for the last 10 years or so on my commute home. few weeks ago my license plate light was out and i got pulled me over. i've never had police treat me so aggressively in my life. license plate bulb burned out escalated to a window tint ticket as well, and then the officer swore he'd pulled me over for it all before, which he hadn't, and he threatened to arrest me for failure to comply with the order of an officer. called in a 2nd officer who also claimed he'd pulled me over for these things before, which he hadn't. the 2nd officer was extremely rude on top of being aggressive, at one point asked me if i had a disability or something, like i lacked intelligence to make sound decisions. the officers were definitely more aggressive than they needed to be. plus i'd think they'd have a record of stops they'd made and realize they'd never pulled me over before. idk. after issuing 3 tickets they were polite about explaining how easy it would be to change the burned out bulb and the process to get a window tint permit as well as getting a ticket dismissed for not having a current insurance card on me. i just honestly don't understand why they couldn't be that polite the whole way through. or why they needed to call in a 2nd officer and threaten to arrest me. i have friends in law enforcement and i respect police and what they do, but these particular officers were the kind that give police a bad name. i'd recommend avoiding that stretch of 291. i talked to the department about filing a complaint. they said i'd have to come in and talk to the chief of police to do so. the chief is a pastor at a church my family used to attend. the chief was a good friend of my father's and actually officiated my dad's funeral. i may go talk to him. that being said, i don't think i should have to go through all the trouble of sitting down with the chief of police to simply document the aggressive behavior of the officers they have patrolling the area.

These guys do a great job. I am a very threatening woman with a car seat in my car. I’ve never got a ticket, I’d never even been pulled over! Thank god they did the safe thing and pulled me over driving the speed limit and gave me tickets for one of my windows being too dark. And had another patrol vehicle show up. Who knows what would have happened if I was allowed to continue driving safely?!

They need to be taught by lspd on people skills. Honestly they don’t deserve a star.
