I enjoyed the small cavalry museum itself but the us army doesn't make it convenient to visit. For starters you have to get a gate pass at the building to the right before your allowed to drive on post. If someone had not warned me ahead of time I would have drive up to the gate only to be turned away and directed back to the office building.nOnce inside the first thing they tell you is that the museum is under remodel and currently not at its listed location. If you are still willing to visit there's a form you will need to complete with your valid ID so they can run a quick background check on you. If you have been there before I think it goes quickly. After a brief wait and approval is granted they will give you a pass and directions to the temporary location of the museum.nThe current museum is not that big but it has about a dozen displays on the history of the post and the big red 1. It includes displays on both world wars, Custer and Patton, uniforms thru the eras and a section on women in the military including combat roles. Also pick up a replica weapon and grab a helmet to see how it fits. You can stretch it out to an hour and maybe 90 minutes if you read everything.nAfter that you can visit the small gift shop and see if there are any souvenirs you might like. I was a little picky and didn't find anything this trip. Not much in the way of snacks either. I hope the museums permanent home will be more convenient and accessible but maybe not. If your in the area with some free time it might be worth the small donation to check out a piece of history.

If you like history this is a very well done museum. It covers military from many different times. Near by is the Custard house. It is not the real house Custard lived in but is the same type and uses period decor.

We love history, so this was so very good! Can't wait to come back and see the remodeled and refurbished museum!

I loved going here when we lived in Kansas. My dad was stationed on Fort Riley and this was the first place he took us. It's also spooky a few times I seen orbs. And we have a picture of the two men when you first walk in and there's a little boys face and there was no one else there. Highly recommend
