Awesome tour! A completely unique and interactive experience that offers the opportunity to sit in the same chair as Teddy Roosevelt and use the same one-of-a-kind bowling alley as a young Dwight D. Eisenhower. Filled with incredible artifacts, you become immersed in the architecture and innovations of the turn of the century. Crossing paths with the likes of Edison, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Teddy Roosevelt, you can feel the optimism of the time period.
We had no idea what a treasure we were going too. We went to Abilene Kansas on a spur of the moment road trip to see the Seelye Mansion but didn't know it was going to be the most amazing house tour we have ever been on. What history and the man (Terry Tietjens) that has made it all possible gives the tours. If you are ever in the area don't miss this treasure. Terry has first hand knowledge of the family and really does a wonderful job telling the story of the house and family.
One of the best tour of a historic mansion. It's a beautiful home with so many memories. Love the grand staircase. Terry the owner was very open with all the space and encouraged us to look in each room except the rooftop garden. We can't wait to return for their Christmas decorations.
One of my girls said I should rate this a seven. The tour was nicely done, the owner and proprietor of the house personally walks you through to show you each and every room. It is not roped off, like other old homes, but you are free to touch and sit on some things. Mr Terry plays the piano well and shows all of his treasures from the Seelye family very well.
Definitely well worth the visit. The tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable about the home and the people who have lived here. This is unlike any other historic home I have ever been to between the East Coast and Kansas.
