Free! Excellent museum filled with a variety of items. There was so much to look at. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I loved the birds, animals, and historical pieces they have collected. I visited for over an hour but I could have stayed longer.

Amazing room: about Parson's College maybe. History of Fairfield's people. Natural History a little funky perhaps. Didn't get to stay due to closing time.

The Carnegie Historical Museum absolutely blew me away when I saw it. The amount of artefacts that it has indoors is amazing! Enough for a museum of three or four times the size. In addition to that most of the exhibits are very skilfully placed, though they are running out of space, but the fact that it is so tightly packed is that you don’t have to keep moving around all the time to see new things. The exhibits that are there include almost every subject relevant to the history of Jefferson County, plus many other exotic biological exhibits from all over the world. I was so moved by some of the wartime exhibits I almost came to tears. This attraction is saying that either the curators of the museum are quite skillful, or that Jefferson County is a Jewel in the Crown of Iowa (probably both to varying degrees). Definitely the displays collectively must be worth many millions of dollars. This museum is a must for all families with children and school classes as well. The location has an aura of history about it that should not be missed by any resident or visitor of Jefferson County.

Great museum. If you have any interest in the history of Fairfield, go visit with local treasure Mark Schafer who is a great curator.

Lovely small historical belongings to those who lived in Fairfield a while ago. Haven't seen the third floor, heard it is great and has a stuffed animal collection.
