It has been awhile, but I decided to write a review so maybe something could be done about this. In Spencer, I grew up in a physically abusive home. The police were very involved as well as DHS, multiple counselors and doctors. First, my sister was removed for 'suspected abuse.' When abuse is reported as suspected instead of confirmed, the perpetrator avoids all charges, so I had to stay in the home. After getting one kid Removed, the full force of the abuse turned towards me. She hit me and allowed her many male friends to sexually assault me as they pleased. The cops were at my house almost daily. I had black eyes, bumps, bruises, busted lips and hand prints, all of which the police saw. Strangers used to ask if I was okay because I always had bruises on my face. The police refused to look at photo evidence of my bruises I had kept for about a year. I have never heard of police refusing to view evidence. Well, it ends that the one time my mother said I hit her, I went to juvenile detention. Even though she strangled me that night, I was arrested because I left a bruise when I pushed her off me. One year of telling them she abuses me and another child was removed, but that wasn't enough to be removed from the home. They saw me literally bleeding from my nose and mouth with a black eye and that night the cops still took no action. I was a minor and the police were the people who could have helped me get out of an abusive situation, but they sided with my abuser despite the evidence in my favor. I suspect because the county wouldn't get money for a 'suspected abuse' charge, thy just chose not to use their resources. It seems to be more about making a buck than helping an abused child.
