So the first time we went it was awesome. The guide was terrific. Really knew the house and family history. I was so inspired I took a friend the next weekend. The second time the guide was nice but her thick mask and accent and voice made it virtually impossible to understand and she told no stories of the family or the house. She did try to.pull her mask away to make herself understandable but that made us uncomfortable. The tour was supposed to be 45 minutes and we were done in 30. So disappointed as I had really pumped it up for my friend.
The Lockwood Mathews Mansion is undoubtedly a gorgeous attraction and a major historical and architectural treasure of Norwalk, Connecticut!!!nnThe Mansion is a Second Empire Style country house that was built by financial and railroad tycoon, Legrand Lockwood during the 1860’s.nnOn Sunday, October 25th, 2020, my wife and I had the pleasure of touring the Lockwood mansion.nnWe viewed and learned much about the home’s innovative architecture, its magnificent furnishings which included well crafted sculptures and tapestries and also learned about the interesting lives of the home’s former inhabitants, ranging from Legrand Lockwood and it’s 2nd owner, Charles D. Mathews, a wealthy New Yorker.nnOur tour guide was great and and displayed immense knowledge concerning the home’s history.nnMy wife and I very much enjoyed our tour experience, and we highly recommend that all visitors to Norwalk take the time to see and visit this wonderful National Historic Landmark!!!
Mansion is gorgeous, but blinds/shades seem to always be drawn, probably to protect interior from UV damage. Grounds are okay - not much to see and a lot of road traffic noise, but certainly not a bad place to go for a stroll.
Beautiful place..... The workmanship is incredible. Worth taking the tour
Very good service
