I can’t say enough about how good a stylist Robert Cuda is or about his dedication to his work. I’ve, or specifically my hair, has been the subject of his skills for about 20 years, even as that hair turned gray. My wife has been going to him for even longer than that. With each haircut – there must have been hundreds or thousands – Robert is a perfectionist. Not one single hair is left anywhere than in its assigned place on my head or discarded on the floor. Robert’s aesthetic judgement is excellent; I usually just leave the styling up to him with great results. Interestingly, he has never become complacent. He keeps his skills and knowledge of products up-to-date. He’s even developed his own line of carefully developed products. I’ve seen in all this over years of observation and in lively conversations with Robert. The salon itself is in a comfortable old house with ‘personality.’ The staff has always been professional and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Anyone who goes to Robert for hair care or his other spa services has the benefit of work by someone who loves what he does. He always takes the time to focus carefully on beautiful haircuts that get me compliments.
This salon has moved locations more times than I can count, especially in such a small town like New Canaan. Although I found this very odd and the fact that they wouldn't let their customers know they moved, my wife still visited their salon over the years due to convenience. Based on feedback, the owner, Robert, was never very friendly to her and seemed to treat her like an inconvenience. The last time she visited almost put me over the edge, and that was the last time she ever used their salon. Our babysitter cancelled on us, and my wife had a hair appointment with Robert scheduled, so she decided to bring one of our children with her to her appointment. When she showed up with the child she was read the riot act, how dare she bring a child into his salon, she was mortified and very upset. I do not tolerate patronizing a business and getting treated badly. We have been residents in this town for many years now, and after I heard about this incident, I decided to look more closely at Mr Cudas business. As it turns out, he still owes the town of New Canaan for many years of back taxes, and is not giving his share to the town that hosts his business. In sharing my feedback to others as well, I was not alone in finding this business and its owner to be one of the seediest in town.
As of 2014, Robert Cuda owes over 200K in back taxes to the town of New Canaan, please do not contribute to their business as they do not contribute to our town's economy. I am appalled they are still able to do business in our town.
