I LOVED the self guided audio tour. I’m always up for self guided tours. The building was beautiful and the atmosphere was eerie. My only complaint was that it was pouring out during our visit. But that can’t be helped by the staff and all. Was just bad timing on our part. It was still great even through the rain. 10/10. Great place to visit. Will be returning for a night tour as soon as possible!
This place was so cool! This unplanned stop on our trip to Philadelphia, was probably the coolest place we visited. The tour was very affordable and easy to get into. Tours can be reserved in advance online and begin every 30 minutes. Upon arrival, the staff are very efficient about getting you into the building. While we were there, we found the grounds to be very clean (including the bathrooms). The tour is s self-paced audio tour. The audio tour is very comprehensive and guides you through the prison from entrance to exit. After that, there is a lot of additional content for those who want to explore further into the prison. Overall, I think we spent about 1.5 to 2 hours exploring the prison, listening to the audio recordings, and interacting with the historic items/areas around the facility. The audio tour is extremely entertaining and professional. It includes contributions from professional actors and interviews/testimonials from inmates that were at the prison. I have focused on the audio tour, but the architecture is so cool too! You could spend a couple hours just looking at the architecture around the facility. I enjoyed this place very much and highly recommend it to anyone passing through or looking for something to do.
Coolest place in Philly to take out-of-towners. The audio guides are perfect, the tickets are now timed so you don't have to worry about running into large groups or swarms of people. I don't think you would have to even touch anything except the audio guide which is sanitized. Highly recommend for a really lovely afternoon!
Great experience! The self guided tour was awesome. They gave me some earphones and a player and I was able to take my time listening to all of the info (which was really interesting) while looking around and taking pictures. The place itself is really impressive and creepy. It was fun. ud83dude01ud83dudc7b
Night Tours was new for ESP this fall replacing (due to CoVID) their normal haunted experience around Halloween. The Night Tours run only certain nights of the week throughout October-mid November. If wanting to visit, seeing the old prison at night just increases the natural creepiness of decaying cells. Upon entering, everyone gets a personal audio tour device, so you’re following the signs and listening as your own pace. If we ever go again, I’d visit again at night if available. Very well done!
