West Reading Police Department

After careful thought and appropriate time to think it through I have decided to leave this review in hopes that Chief will read it and understand my frustrations. I am a 41 year old commercial construction company owner, Potak Commercial Maintenance LLC. I have been doing this 23 years. My wife, a full-time career police officer manages my business. Yesterday while traveling back from completing an estimate at one of the 80 different Giant Food Stores I frequently handle small renovations and repairs for I was traveling on 422/222 towards Allentown. I was in the passing lane traveling past an exit with nobody near me when i look in the mirror and notice a mid 2000's Explorer approaching rather quickly. I was driving a late model black Cadillac Escalade. At this time I am traveling about 60MPH. I quickly move over to let him over take me and notice it was a West Reading patrol vehicle. As it passes me it slows down and I notice the officer stares at me and I believe he noticed my left arm and hand are tattoo covered. I have my seat belt on and I'm traveling safely so I just ignored it. He than passes in front of me and slows from atleast 70+ MPH down to below 55mph. By this time other traffic is now approaching to my rear and I figured he was exiting so i merge into the left lane and now I'm traveling at approximately 58-60MPH. I was about a half-car length in front of him not paying attention to him when he sounds a loud siren that startled me. I hit my brakes in reaction and he pulls along side me pulling both his hands off the wheel holding them up motioning 55 mph and mouthing something to me. While paying attention to him I almost hit the median and slowed significantly and merged behind him and I stayed there until he exited as my nerves were a bit shaky.nWhen he exited I believe he mouthed an inappropriate word or two and picked up his radio as to call and report me which I didn't understand. This kind of officer makes your department look less than professional and those actions are exactly what causes tension in this country. He had no idea who I was, what I represent, all that I do to support law enforcement but because of my truck, my tattoos he thought he could take the mornings aggressions out on me which is totally inappropriate and makes departments like West Reading far less respected. I applaud him for his courage to put on the uniform every day just like my wife does with our 1 year old at day care but that is not a free pass for anyone to act how they want, especially out of jurisdiction and after speeding up on me without lights and sirens. I assume someone will look into this with concern so it does not happen again.nRegards,
