One of the coolest museums I've visited. Walk-through art installations and a very laid back vibe. This is the sort of place where the artists ask you to interact with their work intellectually. Love this place.
The place is absolutely fascinating! The first building is like a doll house factory. The second building is unique given that the first floor can be constantly updated. There are also fascinating exhibits on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The third building has their legacy exhibits. I have some minor issues with balance & my legs. The staff was terrific, soliciting feedback for their upcoming accessibility study. Will definitely go back!
This is my favorite art museum in all of Pittsburgh. The cool thing about the Mattress Factory is that it's always changing, it's interactive, and you are always slightly shocked and pleasantly surprised.nnI've seen so many amazing art installations here over the years. The rotating exhibits always keep every experience fresh and exciting.nnThere was one installation that you would lie down inside a pod, and it was like being in the womb. It was a warm pink hue, swayed slightly, and the visuals changed. It was a very strange and interesting experience. It still stands out in my memory because it was so surreal.nnThe exhibit that makes the Mattress Factory truly stand out is the permanent installation, Infinity Dots Mirrored Room. It makes everyone's face light up with child-like wonder. Keep in mind that the art here is very unusual, so if you're not a fan of modern art, it might not be your cup of tea.nnIf you're visiting Pittsburgh and trying to figure out what to do on the North Side—the Mattress Factory is a must see. Also, check out RandyLand, take a walk around the Mexican War Streets, and go to Max's Allegheny Tavern--this restaurant is authentic old-school Pgh.
Absolutely loved The Mattress Factory! I found it a very immersive experience, with tons of different exhibits to see. Personal favorite was the annex with all of the distorted carpentry, makes you feel as if you’re in a different dimension. Have already recommended to others, but I’m sure I’ll be back!
always a fun experience at the matress factory, definitely not the place to take your kids, but a fun experience for teenagers/adults. even with covid-19 restrictions, the museum is still fun! wear a mask, social distance, refrain from touching stuff, and everyone can have a safe and fun experience.
