Cool little museum with so interesting history. Smaller than i thought but a great experience had for a great day trip into Canyon City. Very close to some good small town dinning and shops. The prison is well preserved and maintained. We cant wait to do a paranormal investigation there. They offer private overnight ghost hunts. The prices are great for budget getaways. The gift shop sells prisoner made articles which were very cool. Definitely make it a stop if just passing through or need a day to get away.
This was really interesting as an exhibit of Colorado corrections. It's off the beaten path and seems less visited which is too bad. It's really well done and nice that it's self-guided. It's well laid out as each cell on the floor is a particular story. For instance, one cell is a history of notorious inmates, another is a history of all wardens, etc. There are two floors (watch your head on the stairs!). the people are really nice and the place is clean, informative and an interesting museum. You can take from a few minutes to a couple of hours to go through it. Well worth the time.
The Museum of Colorado Prisons is an awesome place to stop and visit. They have really done a great job with the variety of cells describing prisoner and warden lives inside the prison. The staff is welcoming and and very informative. The pamphlet you receive when entering gives you a brief description of what you will find in each of the cells.nnThe museum is open from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Wednesday- Sunday. Closed on Monday and Tuesday’s.
Very informative
This is actually wicked cool, they used an old woman's prison to create exhibits with historical information and artifacts in the prison cells. I was surprised, the museum is right next to the actual medium prison. It was absolutely worth the $10, wish I had more time to spend here. There was a whole lot of information!
