Not sure if it's because my son was at an amazing school last year but very unhappy with teacher, lack of supplies (chairs, etc), teaching techniques (or lack there of new, updated, different styles, and interesting teaching). Plus the endless busy work sent home EVERY NIGHT for a 2nd grader, spending at lease an hour but most the time more. When it is just copied right out of an out dated lakeshore or teaching book of some kind, and my child say they do the same stuff at school. My child was challenged and interested at his last school, Hollywood Beach Elementary. The teachers (or teacher to be fair) there are positive and not negative which I find to be the case at Mesa Union. They seem more interested in money money money, every week my child is sent home with some sort or another asking for donations, fundraisers, $180 at beginning of school for supplies ( or so we were told, but then they gave a long list of things he needed for class). We are all for helping schools out but to what end? Also emailed the teacher 2 times about my child being bullied (I witnessed it before school so I know he is not fabricating it), and I never got a response. However when I got an email from the teacher asking for (yep you guessed it money) I emailed back saying we would send some money, I got a reply right away!! I guess the school used to be amazing but this year there is new teachers, principals etc. I've never been so disappointed in a school or a teacher. I can't wait for my child to be part of the Hollywood Beach Elementary family again and get out of this corporate non creative school!!! I would give it 1 star but I have not withdrawn him yet!!! The fact it has 5 stars seems fishy to me!!!! However the new principal Dr. Bluestien is new to the school (he started this year I belive) is awesome and got back to me within minutes of me emailing him. I do hope that with him in charge so changes will be made for the better. We were told by many people that it was a great school that was just not our expriance AT ALL!!!
