San Jose Diridon Station

Station is served by Amtrak Coast Starlight (north to Seattle, south to LA) and Amtrak California to Sacramento. Caltrain also runs a commuter service up the peninsula to San Francisco.nnThe local VTA runs buses and a light rail line from this station. Amtrak also runs a bus service over the Santa Cruz mountains to the city of Santa Cruz. It is next to the city's arena.nnFor the tenth largest city in the US, the station is small and underwhelming compared with other Amtrak downtown location, but the station is clean and the building is historical. There is a small kiosk selling snacks, magazines, newspapers, and train souvenirs.nnAmtrak Coast Starlight's schedule has been reduced to three times a week due to Covid (9/2020), so double check before booking. Southbound usually arrives just before 10:00 AM, and the northbound arrives around 8:30 PM.

Love my Caltrain as it helps me beat traffic and the stress of commuting. Yet it might be a very long time until we are comfortable or even safe to use public transportation. Trains are completely empty these days. See pictures attached.

Really impressed with the staff running the ticket counter and the staff on the train. We had a glitch in the paperwork of my grandson Ashton’s ticket he ended up missing his 4 pm train to Sacramento and having to wait for the 5 pm train. What really impressed me was the staffs professionalism and kindness in making sure a minor by himself was taken care of. Bottom line is these people that work for Amtrak are really kind and nice people the major airlines of the world should take lessons from these people, I travel a lot so I have a good perspective on this.nI do not have the names of the people that helped me but my grandsons train first ticket was for 4:13 pm out of San Jose to Sacramento he ended up taking the 5:10.nThank you
