This was my first school. I loved the big old brick school house, but it was torn down due to earthquake concerns. I remember doing some work in the school garden at the north end of the campus, but I forgot the name of the teacher. It was a very pleasant experience, but it was a long time ago. When I attended DDES, there were no fences on the south end of the school yard. It's amazing how much hasn't changed over the years. I dropped by the office a few years ago and asked when there would be a reunion of the Class of 1957. All they did was laugh (I really wasn't being serious.) It was a nice place. I hope it still is.
Great school for the most part. Was disillusioned when attending their end of the year awards. Now at the awards ceremony close to 100% of the awards for math, English and science were given to Asian students. Asian students most likely drive this school to be in a great category but if the Hispanics population would not hold on to their end of the bargain being at 60% of the population this school would not be where it is at academically. My observation is that teachers of Asian descent appear to hand out certificates to students of Asian descent. Have witnessed firsthand this phenomenon two different years. Kind of sad to not recognize students when they warrant to get recognized, don’t want no free hand outs but do want the process to be fair, for the students sake.
