Worth the effort

At a little over two miles to the summit, you would think this is an easier hike. Even when I got a little winded, the incredible views kept me going to the top. Talk about panoramas! Bring water and go!

What a climb. Worth the energy and the time. We took a lunch and enjoyed that while taking in the wonderful view.

At the Cerro Grande trail head there are other trails available. Though the area is still fire scarred, the trails are worth the drive. For a first high altitude walk/hike, might I suggest the 2.5 mile round trip Upper Frioles Trail. Which at its end has some spectacular views and on a clear day you can see just about forever. More adventurous? The 5 mile Sawyer Mesa trail. Nuts? The Cerro Grande trail that in a 2 mile span climbs over 1200 feet. Be ready for that one and be sure you can handle the high altitude. Still, it is relatively smooth for good hike.
