The Railroad closed their doors before I could go on my excursion. Lost out on this plus I had prepaid online so I won't ever get my money back. There was no response to emails or phone calls either.
I loved our experience this summer. We did a Wine Tasting and it was so much fun and a great taste treat. The waitstaff were so nice and the wine was terrific. Nice pairings!nnHighly recommend this!
The experience of a lifetime! Even though it isn’t as well known as other railroads like Cumbres and Toltec or Durango and Silverton, it was still just as good. I sat in the full length dome car on the way (the windows could’ve been a bit cleaner) and enjoyed that. The attendants suggested a grocery store in La Veta to get ice cream from and boy, were they right. That ice cream was great! It got even better on the way back. I stood on the back of the open air observation at the back. It was great!!! In fact, I would have given this five stars except for three reasons: One was that one of the attendants was being REALLY rude. She was always telling me go somewhere else. On the way, she was telling me to go the open air car when I was in the vestibule at the back of the back of train. On the way back way back, she told me to go to to the vestibule when I was in the open air car because the emergency brake was extremely “touchy”. A few minutes later a few kids began trying to pull the emergency brake and were trying to flip the ladders down, but she did nothing, probably waiting for them to pull it and then blame it on me. Another reason was that the ride from Alamosa to Fort Garland was the opposite of scenic! Also, the paint on most of the cars was peeling and old. Just avoid that attendant and you’ll be alright!
Rails & Ales has been the best way for us to kickoff the summer every year for the past 7 years. Wouldn’t miss it ever! A great event that satisfies our need to get outside, meet new friends, and share a brew after an amazing voyage up the pass!
One of my fondest memories will be of the day I rode the train through the mountains to the Fir concert venue. The ride was relaxing and scenic. The food was excellent. The concert was very enjoyable, almost like a gathering at home. I recommend everyone go ride the train!
