My friends and I went here a few years ago for a last minute tour. We just did the quicker tour but it was super cool. Our tour guide within the mine was great, super knowledgeable on everything about the mine from geology to all of the history and we had tons of fun. I plan on doing another trip to the area and reserving one of their higher packages in the hopefully near future.
What an awesome time! This mine tour company is definitely a UP hidden gem. The staff was so knowledgeable and interesting. We took the Miners tour with Layna (forgive the potential misspelling). She is a Michigan Tech Geology major and shared great information about the land and mine. There is so much history to absorb about the area and its incredible that we take our mining history for granted. Our tour was equal parts learning to equal parts of true adventure. We hiked, rappelled and crossed a wooden suspended bridge. Our tour of 5 was perfect and we felt extremely blessed to have a small personalized tour with an EXCELLENT guide. Wear good closed toe shoes, hikers or sport shoes as your feet may get a bit damp, a sweatshirt atleast or light coat as it is humid and the temp in the cave is in the 40’s. We wore sweatshirts and raincoats over the top and despite near continuous walking we were extremely comfortable. I will say outside of the cave was nearly in the 90’s! Be prepared for porta potties and rustic parking. YOU WILL HAVE AN ADVENTURE.
I really enjoyed Miner's Tour. It was totally worth the $65. They were short staffed the day so there was way to many people in our tour, making it take one to one and half ours longer. Our tour guide, Jacob told us he was studying a new mining program in college so he was super knowledgable about this mine and all mines in general. I was smart and really made the tour worth it. I would definitely recommend going on this tour.
This was an interesting experience. I would give 5 stars except they let a 10 year old on the “must be at least 13” tour. There’s a reason for the age restriction: when it came time to suit up and rappel down the wind tunnel the kid nearly crapped himself and it took 2 guides and 30 minutes to get him through it (note: it took everyone else about 5 minutes). Don’t let this discourage you from an otherwise very worthwhile adventure.
Kat was very knowledgeable and made my wife and I feel very safe. Absolute blast! Can't wait to come back and hopefully she's still working because we will be requesting her to guide us. Love to explore more of the mine. Will be recommending this to everyone!
