Super 8 by Wyndham Homewood Birmingham Area

Nice - clean - secure. My family and I are traveling cross country for a Military move and we were stopping in Birmingham. We first stopped first at a Quality inn and Motel 6 (which is across the parking lot from Super 8 ) and lets just say we did not even make it to the room. While we were about to give up on finding a nice CLEAN and SAFE place to sleep, I called Super 8 and Angela answered the phone. She was very helpful and kind when my husband went in to take reserve our room . When you walk in you can see that the entry is clean and updated,the rooms were clean and a complete 180 from some of the other hotels around here.

First of all DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The reviews that say everything was great are absolutely false. My family just stayed here largely because they accepted dogs and because most Hotels in the area were booked. Everything started out fine. The lady who helped me was friendly and said she was on her second shift. Still she was kind. However, that was the end of anything else nice about this place. My daughter read that they were under new management. Usually that’s supposed to be a positive. In this case, a huge NO! Upon arrival there’s also a sign that says this establishment is smoke free. That’s also a HUGE NO!!! As we walked up the stairs the smell of marijuana and cigarette smoke filled the air. It was 11 at night. We had been on the road 12 hours so we decided to clinch our teeth and deal with it. I called the front desk where the nice lady assured me she would “look into the smoke situation”. Whatever!!! Our daughter and her little boys room had Cheetos under the bed, food was smeared on the wall and our room was musty and smelled of the smoke from the hall. In addition, there was mouse poop in the bathroom. We slept until 5:30 am and left as soon as possible.nnI went to the front desk the next morning where another lady assured me the facility was NON SMOKING. I assured her she was incorrect and invited her to go upstairs where the marijuana was as strong that morning as the night before. She didn’t accept the invite but assured me she would have “the manager” call me as soon as he got in. That was 3 days ago and still no phone call. Maybe that ‘new management’ doesn’t have a clue or just doesn’t care. It’s obvious by the condition of the rooms. Find another place to stay even if that means in your car.

The receptionist was nice but the experience was a little sketchy.. They need security indoors and outdoors.. The power went out for almost 4 hours and no one came to my room and told me anything.. We were on the 3rd floor and I would have had to take the stairs since the elevators were down temporarily but I could hear a couple of people who work there nearby so I thought they would say something about it but they didn't.. I think we should have been compensated for our inconvenience.

These people were much friendlier and professional/polite than the hotel review I just left about a hotel in SE Birmingham. Staff: super nice! Cleanliness: excellent. Might be a less desirable part of town (so what?), but I should have just stayed there instead of relocating to a particular hotel in SE Birmingham. Keep it up, Wyndham! :)

Clean and friendly and quiet. What more can you ask for
