Booking online made everything so easy! The museum it self was very well laid out and had a perfect mix of artists and styles! We enjoyed the native PNW art and history the most! The SAM has a HUGE collection of modern and traditional art from the tribes of the Pacific North West, that alone is worth the trip!nVery friendly and kind staff to top it off!
There is something for everyone at the SAM, from galleries of contemporary American art, old European masters, an extraordinary collection of Native American works from the Pacific Northwest, to ancient Hellenic and Egyptian pieces. The reservation system is in 30 minute time windows which allow visitors to space themselves out well, and provides a contactless admission system. Don't worry about your coat, they have a self coat check at the door. Maps and additional exhibit information is made available via easy to use QR codes placed throughout the museum, and plenty of friendly staff is throughout the gallery space to offer help, or answer questions. A great place to spend a day with the family!
Well organized, great exhibits.
Like many great galleries and museums this one is no exception in the fact you could likely visit many times and see something new. We spent the afternoon here and even without a special exhibit couldn’t really take everything in. The building is large and the art is generously spread over two floors. Art is clustered around themes or time periods in discrete rooms that are large and airy and spacious. Favourite spaces for me included the modern art, the Indigenous artifacts and the porcelain room. I really appreciated the SAM’s admission policy which makes art accessible to everyone. We easily used public transportation to visit the SAM as it is right downtown and parking and traffic can be stressful. The website is very informative and easy to navigate.
Lovely museum
