Snowy River Belltown

Drinks are great Taco Tuesday are terrible. The tacos have a small amount of meat and shredded lettuce on a corn tortilla. No cheese no tomato. Burger night just not too bad. Servers are good.

I went to Snowy River Cocktail Company in Downtown Seattle a few weeks ago with my fiancé and 2 of our friends. We were given the suggestion by one of his work friends and there are only a few options for upscale cocktails where we live. Our first round of drinks we ordered from the menu and to our surprise they were all full of glitter and colored sugars. When I asked the bartender what was in them he said that it was their brand of decorating products and that they were made from natural ingredients. When I asked what the actual ingredient was that made them sparkly he told me it was natural mica.nnI was shocked. There have been numerous articles and news pieces done over the last years exposing forced child labor and horrendous and unsafe working conditions in mica mines in India. There’s no doubt about it that mica is mined from the blood and sweat and the death of children forced into labor because of poverty. A lot of cosmetics that used natural mica have started using synthetic forms or have found other ingredients to make their products sparkly because of this. They have also published that the health effects of regular exposure to mica dust can do permanent damage to the lungs when inhaled and cause long lasting health consequences just like asbestos. We watched the bartender make lots of drinks that night and it was clear they were under constant exposure to mica dust because every time a cocktail was made there was a giant cloud of it put into the air right under their noses and their shirts were glittery in places from where it settled on them.nnOnto the drinks. Our first round of drinks was a mixed bag. My fiancé ordered something the server said was pretty sweet called a molten gold and it was like drinking straight karo syrup and it was saturated in that glitter and had a shiny sugar rim. He only drank maybe half of it and didn’t send it back because he didn’t want to be rude. The margaritas are a solid choice and made with fresh lime juice and good tequila. But when I asked why the salt rim was also sweet I was told they use sugar syrup to make it stick to the glass instead of lime because their rim products are too heavy to stick without it. This part kind of ruined it for me because it was unexpected and not in a good way.nnIt was obvious to our server we weren’t totally happy with our first round and he asked if he could make us drinks more to our tastes. The questions he began to ask us made us confident that he knew what he was doing so we asked him to make us custom drinks without the glitters and rims like at any normal cocktail bar (he made our second round of drinks himself). He asked us a lot of questions about what kinds of drinks we usually order when we go out and like what kinds of flavors and starting point liquors we like. He was very thorough with all of us. The drinks he made us were wonderful and all of them were different and unique in their own way depending on what we told him. If I could review him by himself he’d get 5-stars for the way he was with us and the skill he shows in the bar.nnI want to like this place and I vacillated about writing a review. The service was great but I just can’t get over it that this place exists and profits from forced child labor. It is 2020 and we live in a time when the information is a click away and we live in a country where we are given chances to make better decisions.

Great new spot to visit! Great atmosphere, food, and drinks. There is something on the menu for everyone and the cocktail list is extensive! Highly recommend this bar in Seattle to anyone.

Nice spot in Belltown with pretty cocktails, yummy macaroons and comfort food. Staff is friendly and the food and drinks came out quickly. Cocktail menu is extensive so want to go back and try more. My friend who is vegetarian only had a couple menu options so would be good if they had a couple more on the menu.

AMAZING drinks! I highly recommend, everything about this place is so thought out! The food is delicious and the drinks are so much fun! They can make any style drink look magical!
