Had a day off so whipped out the tablet and zoomed in on Google maps for a bit. Oh, Asheboro has an airport? (some of the locals in town said the same thing). Hey look! They have an aviation museum!nPicked out a local restaurant for lunch, (Google), then set off to the land of Richard Petty, and aviation history.nThe airport is kind of on a dead end road, and not that easy to find, so I understand the locals question of existence.nOnce found, the wonderful lady that checked us in answered all doubts.n2 aircraft hangers full of history, and the sweet smell of aviation fuel, and grease, us museum hounds love to experience. (Wasn’t really that smelly). All actual aircraft are flyable and ready for flight so no touching allowed.nPlenty of donated family air looms to round out the experience.nWonderful place to visit.
Kids had a great time walking around and looking at all the planes. In and out in an hour. Masks required, but we had the entire museum to ourselves.
This place is super cool!nMy son is 4 years old and absolutely loves planes. There were many different models and colors ud83dude0d I'm really glad we went
$10 adult fee. Takes about an hour to go through. Wish things were kept clear and clean around the exhibition. For example they had a car that had been used in a movie that was pretty cool that had junk stacked next to it and a broom propped against it. No way to take a picture of this car without getting junk in the picture. Then there is a huge plane that the inside looks like it is being used as a janitor closet - so another photo op missed because didn't want the cans of window cleaner and rags, etc in the picture.
Not an especially large museum, but still nice and good to have. Seeing the variety of planes, etc., and reading a little about the history of each was quite interesting. Oh, if you're looking for small, model airplanes, they have lots on display. I enjoyed my visit.
