We love so much about school! It's small, so everyone knows each other and each kid gets personalized attention. Lots of opportunities for help when needed. They teach to the top of the class, but do not let kids fall behind. Their Field Activity Program is the only one of it's kind in the country and our son has experienced so much he never would've without it. If you have a child approaching middle-school age, you owe it to them to check out GCA & GCMS.
My daughter attended GCA three years ago. We will both remember her years there for the rest of our lives w/a deep sense of admiration & gratitude. From a parent stand point It is mandatory that you are involved to a certain extent or you can be a full time volunteer & do something everyday. Because both of the Gulf Coast schools are chartered there not run like a typical school. There are no cafeteria or janitorial staff, it's the administrators & teachers along w/ the students & their families who run the the school essentially. The education is second to none. The admin. & staff get to know your child inside out as you have the same subject/teacher for all three years. Learning is integrated by admin. & teachers planning the week/s main focal point on hands on activities where once a week your child will travel to a different place for hands on learning. From caving, getting their boating license, gardening, surviving on an island to picking up garbage on an abandoned lot , if you can think of it your child will prob do it! All subjects come together based on the hands on part of the week to integrate & help the student learn. There is very little tolerance for bad behavior & etiquette & altruism are a large part of the schools philosophy. It's not a school for all children but if you desire a tremendous team of unassuming, selfless staff who put your child's education before all else than this is where they need to spend those difficult middle school years! You can rest assured that you will have no worries & have nothing but excellance when your child is at school. You may also feel confident they are on the right path to a great future!!
This is one of if not the best school for middle schoolers. I personally went here for my 3 years of middle school and it was the best schooling of my 12+ years. They offer hands on learning for every subject. Projects, trips, clubs and more! Every week your child will go on a new and exciting trip with the field activity program included in their education. Caving, snorkeling, and kayaking are just some of the many trips offered in the program. All of this along with standard subjects including math, english, technology, science, and history are a part of the curriculum offered at Gulf Coast Academy. I cannot fit all of the exciting and amazing things offered here so go and check it out yourself! Tell them RJ sent you!
