I.C. Norcom High School

I have never seen a school that has such big Alumni support. These people love their school. Old/young..successful. They come back to share and help next generation. Its been a pleasure working at this school. Portsmouth is a hotbed of raw athletic talent also. I m excited about the bright smart kids we have..here. All the rumors people spoke to me about a violent school before I came are not true. This school is peaceful & great. I ve seen violence in other places..this school is not one.

A 1969 graduate of the school that I love, I. C. Norcom HS, thanks to all staff and employees of our school that continues the great legacy and history that makes all that wake the halls of Norcom proud and a desire to pass on that legacy to future generations. One thing if I may, that is our student basketball players , and coach, would show more respect in their stance doing the National Anthem. There are two players in particular each game cross their heart or stand at attention. Our team is nationally known people notice everything we do. As an american and ex military person, in the worlds largest military area, it's the right thing to do . Thanks coach and players in advance for standing tall with us and I am there in support with the boys and girls in making history.

I am not impressed with this school and frankly don't understand how they maintain their status. Unfortunately, the majority of us parents were either not aware that our houses were zoned for this school, or have been unable to sell our property due to the undesirable reputation that Portsmouth has. This school is full of gang members, homeless kids, and all sorts of other social issues. I think the teachers do the best they can with the resources they have, but it isn't nearly enough. I am contemplating giving my home away just to get out of this city and save my children from a life of crime, drugs, and gangs. This is what this school is turning out. Very sad. The 20% of kids that are actually motivated , have goals to become something other than a drug dealer, and will actually graduate don't get the attention much deserved.
