Island Park

I loved living there in the 1970's, so much fun at the beach. Island Park was the home of Goodfella Henry Hill for a while.

There is definitely a ticket happy cop! Today I saw 6 cars with tickets! Makes no sense that all of the sudden six cars didn't pay the meter! There is something SUPER FISHY going on. A month ago I parked and got a ticket for a meter that was expired at around 1:30 PM. I know I put 10 hours worth of quarters in the meter so it should have expired around 6 PM as I took the 8:14 train. I went to the hearing and they reduced my ticket to half or gave me the option to meet with the judge at a later date. In principle I would have, but I'm alone with my 19 month old as my husband works overseas... so I caved in and paid $20 + the $3 fee for using a credit/debit card (yes, you have to pay the fee EVEN with a debit card - to add insult to injury). Ever since that ticket I take pictures of the meter that I paid as proof (and this is what I showed at the hearing). I even took a video of a meter eating my coins and not going past 4 hours - I had to move my car to another meter in that instance. Do try to avoid parking here if you can! I'm looking into alternatives...

Clean and properly lit at night. The station house has a restroom. Wheelchair accessible. Don't park your car here, I saw someone pay after they parked and they ended up getting a ticket 12 mins. later anyway... horrible.

Good luck opening your door at this LIRR parking lot. The spaces are too tight so not good if you have an SUV or truck. Also look out for the ticket happy cop. If your car doesn't fit don't even bother parking there because you will park on the white line and you will get a ticket.nnI rather find a spot on a residential block. At least my car won't be damaged by someone opening their door trying to get in a car.
