3 miles away. The trail is very maintained and receive scenic views. My family went together and wanted to find the beaver.nnKids were very happy for the trip.

So long as you make sure you know the schedule for the train (limited to holidays and weekends), this is an easy way to get out of the city for a bit. The trains run on holidays and weekends northbound in the morning, and southbound in the afternoon. Double check the train times before you go and purchase your tickets ahead of time on your phone because it's cheaper than on the train and there is limited data access once you get up in the woods. The train leaves you right at the Appalachian trail where you can go south to the boardwalks which leads up to the Cat Rocks or north into Connecticut. We got the first train on Saturday, hiked to the Morgan Stewart Shelter to camp, and then hiked back for the first train back to NYC on Sunday - it was a lovely little hike with lots of day hikers on the portions close to the road

This is a stop for hikers where the Appalachian Trail passes the railroad tracks. Hikers typically trek to Cat Rocks on West Mountain further west on the Appalachian Trail from here, starting on the River Swamp boardwalk, just off the railroad tracks. Northbound and southbound trains make LIMITED stops here only on weekends and holidays, on the Metro-North Harlem Line. Make sure you know the schedule so you will not miss the train to get off and pick you up from this limited stop.

Very easy to get to on Metro North. Just make sure that you check the time tables on the trains because a)they only stop here on weekends and b)they don't come too often.nAlso, if you want the best day hike, head West from the stop (towards the boardwalk, not towards the road)
