There was a post made by a client asking for a recommendation for a stylist to do a rather difficult color. As a stylist who was licensed in NYC, but doesn’t do hair in Oklahoma I explained the process. At this point another female commented that Amber Boaz, the owner of this salon’s granddaughter, had promised to do this color in a single sitting but requested to do it out of her home. Any stylist with proper education knew this wouldn’t be possible. I got a private message including photos of a girls hair literally melted off and cut into a pixie cut, by another stylist as it was the only hope for repair, followed by waiting for growth for expensive fusion extensions. She didn’t want to confirm the salon by name on the post, but another girl posted the stylist and the detail of the grandmother being the owner. I decided to confirm it was in fact this salon after seeing proof. At this point I was flooded with message requests from other clients this had happened to as well, including a teen with permanent hair follicle damage in a 2 by 3 inch area at the crown of her scalp, and a letter from a dermatologist stating it would likely never grow back. I tried to call the salon and express concern only to be hung up on. I assumed the line was disconnected and called back only to have the owner scream that “she is my granddaughter and I know the situation.” Well I had only mentioned one of the situations. At this point, I contacted the state board, and they knew Amber Boaz by name. In order to do hair out of your home you need additional licensing, which from my understanding she does not have. The owner is aware she is doing hair illegally out of her home, and I believe she supports it to avoid complaints within the salon. I have never seen such a lack of professionalism in a salon, or such damage done repeatedly. There will be a further investigation by state licensing. I also had confirmation from a friend of hers, that while she was in a nursing assistant program, she was doing hair without a cosmetology license at all. Stay far away from this “salon” if you dare to call it that, not only to protect your appearance but your physical health as well. Salons and stylists like this give us all a bad reputation. I fully understand why they do not have a Facebook page because I can only imagine the reviews. #saynorobaldspots #saynotoillegalathomecoloring
