The train engine, caboose and rail car where so beautiful displayed that I was happy I came even before going inside the small museum. The staff enthusiastically share their knowledge of local history.
A lot of effort seems to have gone into revitalizing this museum and the immediate area around it. It is nice, especially if you like railroads and some history. However, this is a 30-45 minutes stop at most and the area about a block away in any direction from the museum feels a bit rough. We went on a Saturday afternoon and by 5:00 everything was empty and there was almost no one around. Would not recommend going or staying after the museum closes as we did not feel entirely safe. During opening hours it looks ok m, but only for a short stop.
Really nice place to visit with the best attention. Thanks a lot. We had a great time seeing everything and seeing the trains passing by
We took our 3 & 4 year old kids to this museum. We weren’t sure how interested they’d be, but decided to check it out. It was SO much fun for them! They loved doing the scavenger hunt, playing with fake money, stamping train tickets, playing in the school room, and exploring the general store area. The caboose with the play area was also a big hit. For me, there was also a lot of really neat history facts about this area. Plus, it’s all AIR CONDITIONED!! It was a lot of fun & we’re looking forward to visiting again and discovering even more things to do.
Good for a 20 minute Gaithersburg history lesson for adults, and a great place for kids. The caboose is full of toys and activities for kids, and the museum is along active tracks, so you might see a freight or commuter train rumble past! Ask to go in the silver car--it's a retired B&O/MARC commuter car.
