We had a great time looking at all the cool things they had here. We got to see replicas of Rock crushers used during mining days. They had alot of very interesting information on mining and the cost of gold back then. Very educational stop! Its definitely worth a look!

Perhaps an hour north of Sugar Hill, having circled Lake Sidney Lanier to either east or west, is Dahlonega Gold Museum.nnIt stands pride of place on the main square in Dahlonega in an 1830s red brick building that also lays claim to being the oldest surviving county courthouse in the state of Georgia.nnAs a museum it details what is known as America’s first gold rush and its objects include panning equipment, gold nuggets as they are found in the ground, and the precious metal coins that result.nnWhile discovering this history, be sure not to miss the original judges’ deliberation chamber, courthouse and jury room.

Lots of interesting history and many amazing pieces of the past. Just sad it was over too soon. And would've loved to have known more about the geography of North Georgia.

It was a cool little self guided tour that told about the Dahlonega gold rush and the changes around the area during that time. There was also a short video upstairs and they had some old interviews with people who were around then. They also told about the architecture of the old court house, which is where the museum is, and it was interesting. It wasn't expensive and didn't take a lot of time but the wife and I enjoyed it. We'll probably take the kids back one day and let them see it too. The shops around the place made for a good half day trip.

Love that this museum is still trying to remember its locals and keep the rich history alive here! Proud of this museum for being proud of what this town was built on and the people who helped build it.
