I moved into an extremely dirty apartmentnOn February 1st, and paid $100 to have it professionally cleaned. The apartment, at 3568 Riverside Avenue, is an old converted house, circa 1920. With the exception of a partially remodeled kitchen, the apartment was in the condition one would expect in a unit of that age, INCLUDING old water stains in the bathtub.nnI lived there for 7 months. During the term of my lease, I had several issues that needed to be addressed. The agent/broker was either non-responsive or refused to fix the problem. For example, the HVAC unit clearly needed service or replacement, because it would not cool below 78 degrees. The agent/broker stated that this was “normal” in the summer and refused to have it inspected (despite multiple requests). The grass was regularly knee-high, despite attempts by me and the other tenants to get it properly maintained. Finally, two months before my lease expired, the back door to my unit became stuck due to moisture, and (again despite repeated requests), the agent/owner never had the work done.nnThe final straw was my attempt, over numerous weeks, to have my security deposit returned. I paid a professional cleaning crew $200 to do a “move-in ready” clean. The apartment was absolutely pristine. After assuring me that my deposit would be refunded, I was shocked when I finally received it with a $300 deduction for “reglazing” the bathtub. The agent/owner never even bothered to discuss the issue with me — an issue which was present when I moved in and which (I suspect) is still present.nnPlease avoid this extremely shady company at all costs. There are many good landlords in the area with excellent reputations who provide good service and do not steal security deposit funds.nnJD Moorehead
