Half the zoo was under construction the last time we were here. However this is definitely one of my all time favorite zoos for one reason:nnHUGE PETTING ZOO AREA. Oh god. It was awesome.nnPlus the penguin area was pretty large and had lots of little penguins swimming around which was super cute.

It was great to see all the different species, although it was quite packed when I was there and the staff had to make sure people were moving, not really allowing everyone to look at the animals hiding in the habitats. Be prepared to only see about half the animals when there's a line outside. And be prepared to move fast otherwise people will crowd the windows.

It's really fun to go with your kids and family there are a lot of cute animals to see. There is just to much to explore or see. You are entertained when you enter until you leave.

If you can't make it out to the San Diego zoo. This is the next best thing. Fun events year round. Family oriented atmosphere. Friendly staff. Affordable memberships.

I've been going to the LA zoo since before I could walk (in my 20s now) and my favorite part has always been the reptile house (now including more amphibians and fish) but if someone would have told little me what the reptile house would look like today, he would have absolutely lost it. Great climate control, mood lighting, and interesting exhibits continue to make this my favorite part of the zoo. PS that chinese giant salamander is an absolute behemoth
