This place is AMAZING. It's clean, spacious, and it has most of the essentials you would need starting out (toilet paper, towels etc.) Has a fully stocked kitchen.nnYou can easily have up to 20 people and probably more comfortably in this lodge. The hot tub is awesome, couches are comfortable, and beds are cozy.nnInternet is okay, it's not horrible, but it isn't the greatest.nThe drive way is rough so I'd suggest you use a truck or a car with good tires.nnI definitely recommend this place for any season, but for especially fall. Its gorgeous! ud83dude0d

As someone who has came to Hocking Hills for many years, I am utterly repulsed by the poor service that The Chalets offer at the Grande Butte lodge. First and foremost, they were incredibly misleading when we rented the cabin. We booked this cabin with the intention of having a pool and hot tub, and they omitted the fact that their pool would not be open until after our stay. Therefore, we paid an extremely costly fee to stay here with the promise of a pool but were ultimately not informed going into the agreement that there wouldn’t be a pool available for us, which would have been a deal breaker had we known. Upon contacting management to remedy this situation, the gentleman on the phone was incredibly unpleasant and unaccommodating of their guests. This reflects incredibly poorly of the Chalets at Hocking Hills.nOn top of the scam associated with renting the property, we also have experienced a wealth of problems with the cabin itself. The complimentary WiFi has been non-functional since the beginning of our stay, the plumbing is unfathomable given that nothing flushes down the toilets, and there is poor water pressure.nOverall, this experience has been absolutely horrendous and I would never recommend ever staying in any cabin property owned by The Chalets. To give credit where credit is due, the hot tub and the hot tub maintenance man were nice, nonetheless.

We booked the cabin a week before Memorial Day and although it was certainly hot enough to have the pool open, the pool was closed until the following week. We called to ask if they could open the pool for us a week early, considering we paid full price and would have gladly gone elsewhere if we knew ahead of time that the pool would be closed. Management was very rude and unaccommodating, refusing to compromise with us in any way. Not only that, the internet is slow and there is no cell service around, the outlets in my room were so loose I couldn’t even use them, and there are hardly any chairs to sit on outside. I’ll never return to a chalets owned cabin ever again, and I don’t recommend anyone stay here.

This was a poor visit due to the fact that our group was unaware at the fact that we would be staying in an overly expensive cabin on a 85+ degree weekend with no pool. Having no pool was never mentioned nor stated during the booking process, which would have deterred us from staying here. Also, if a cabin is going to advertise that it is “great for large groups” and states that there is WiFi available, it should work for everyone in that group. Our group was only 13 people and everyone was experiencing difficultly with the WiFi which was unacceptable. I will not be recommending this cabin to anyone who is looking to stay in Hocking Hills, as there are greater amenities at cheaper cabins in the area.

The Positive: Clean house, more than enough room for 18+ guests, large property, kitchen has commercial refrig/freezer units in addition to regular side-by-side refrigerator, large gas and small charcoal grills, fully furnished kitchen (utensils, cookware, slow cooker, toaster, blender, plates, cups, etc), comfortable beds, pleasant staff during rental and check-in process. Overall, it is a nice house and good option if you have a large crowd and are able to find vacant days for a quiet weekend getaway. Plus it is somewhat secluded on hilltop and literally around the corner from Rock House if you want to hike. Views off 2nd story deck are amazing in the morning. If you need to go to town for anything (first aid supplies, food, drinks, etc), Logan is only 20 minutes away and Walmart is right off the highway.nnThe Negative: Can be difficult to find driveway in the dark even though there is a large sign on the main road; absolutely NO cell service (Verizon, T-Mobile) and Wi-Fi is terrible--max download rate is 3 mb/sec so it is nearly impossible to get a signal with more than 5 people in the house trying to connect to network (might be normal for remote location, however); cannot adjust thermostat below 72 deg which is a bummer in hot weather; only 3 TVs in entire house; maintenance shed is directly behind house so unplanned vehicles may show up. Check in process is not conducive to multiple people meeting at house because you cannot get key until 4 PM and they will not give you address to house until check in. I was also under the impression when booking initially that the pool may be open but ultimately it was closed despite unusually high temps for September, and no reduction in price occurred even though pool is big feature of the house-- understandable to a certain extent but cost should be adjusted whether pool is open or closed (paid ~$1300/night).nnOur group ended up having a good time regardless, but for some groups the negatives listed above may be an issue depending on what your plans are. I do want to reiterate that the staff were exceptionally pleasant and professional, and if maintenance is called out to the house they are also very professional. Ultimately, I would return to the Grande Butte Lodge if needing a large house for a large group. Thanks, Chalets!
