We love Spectrum. Our son, now 7, had an unsatisfactory experience at his prior school, and we feel like Spectrum saved us and him from more of the same. Spectrum is a place that values children's individuality, recognizes multiple styles of learning, and instills creativity and curiosity in young learners. We are so lucky to have this resource in Rockford.
My grandson has been at Spectrum since he was 3 years old! He is now in third grade! As a former teacher, I was thrilled that his parents sacrificed to send him to Spectrum! He used to cry when he was sick and couldn't go to school! THAT is how much he loves his school! The pro-active individual instruction and attention that the children get is so rewarding! The small classes are something you don't get in the public schools. Creativity abounds! The teachers and staff are the most caring that I have ever met! It is fun to see a grandchild have such a fabulous experience! Thanks to all the wonderful Spectrum family!
Spectrum Progressive School is a wonderful place. My husband and I chose to send our 3 children here for a myriad of reasons. SPS believes all children are gifted in their own way. There isn’t any pressure to achieve a certain letter grade or a test to take to be placed in a gifted program here. If you are a SPS student, you are gifted. Spectrum is a place where children can think freely, express their creativity in different ways, through different modes of learning, and they learn by doing.nnWe still have one child at SPS, but all of them hated to miss even a day if they were sick. The teachers treat students and parents with respect. The students are on a first name basis with their teachers and staff. While this might make some people uncomfortable, there’s a reason for it...it helps the kids feel comfortable speaking to their teachers and adults.nnToday, our family has two successful public high school students. Both are in leadership roles at their school, both are excellent communicators and not afraid to speak with teachers and staff. They are at and near the top of their classes. We attribute all of this to the strong foundation they received at SPS. Our current middle schooler is ready to make the transition to high school after this year. We are confident that like his siblings, SPS has prepared him well to make this transition.nnReasons to consider Spectrum Progressive School:nnYour kids will like going to school.nnEvery child is treated like they are gifted. Because they are.nnYour child will think for him or herself.nnThere are many ways for your child to express their creativity.nnYour child won’t receive a report card. Instead, they will receive a very detailed progress report (sometimes they can be 6 or 7 pages long). The teachers really know your child. For our family, this is was so much more informative than a letter grade.nnThe teachers and staff are kind and caring. We’ve texted their teachers with a last minute questions. The lines of communication are always open either by text, email, phone call or face to face.nnOne more tid-bit. We had left another private school after bullying issues and and after one teacher commented “your student is so bright that we don’t have what he needs”. We toured several schools in the Rockford area. One thing we noticed was how easily distracted some kids were while we were visiting their schools and classrooms. We thought that was normal and to be expected. But after touring Spectrum Progressive School, we saw one of the many reasons SPS stood out. We sat in on a middle elementary level classroom. All the kids were in groups of 3-4 sitting on the floor working on math problems. They were so engaged in learning that none of them even looked up at us or even cared that we were there. For us, this sealed the deal and our kids were going to Spectrum. A decision we have never regretted.nnJ. Larson
